A blog entry on the official Team Fortress 2 website has teased a brand new project slated for 2012, with little elaboration besides the fact that it is neither a hat nor a map. The blog entry, which covered a number of new things coming this year, also mentioned that the last of the “Meet the Team” sketches would be released, surely putting the speculation to rest as to whether or not the Pyro is female.
“The TF2 team is working on something brand new for 2012” isn’t the most descriptive hint, true, but with the game’s launch nearly five years behind us, it could be something massive. Is it Team Fortress 3? Well, remembering Gabe Newell’s cryptic clue confirming the announcement of “something with a 3 in it” at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles, it could very well be.
There has also been speculation that TF2 would introduce a "raid mode," conceivably pitting teams against a swarm of bots for "Horde" style gameplay.
Valve also has little to say about the "Meet the Pyro" short, only promising that gallons of blood will be spilled and that Oscars will be won for its achievements in blood-spilling. If Valve does actually manage to release Meet the Pyro in 2012, it will come about five years after the first entry in the series, which began with Meet the Heavy in May 2007.
