For those of you who don't live in Austin, Google Fiber is arriving soon, with speeds of 1,000 down and 1,000 up (link). Excellent news for all of us living here, but the announcement also had a ripple effect with other Austin carriers. For instance, Time Warner decided to offer a free upgrade to 300x20 (source) for those customers who currently had the "Ultimate 50x5" plan. That speed increase is now effective:

We're pretty excited about hosting events in Austin; looking forward to 1,000 x 1,000

Do you not have a wireless-n router? I max my speeds out with my laptop on wireless. I haven't run a speed test on my phone yet though but I'll see if I get the same results. I think it's crazy that you're still limited to 20 down. I have to say that while it would be nice to get 300 down, I can't say that I'm upset with only getting 120 down. I think the upload speed is a bit more important to me. Although with you doing the LAN stuff, faster download is always better.

To get faster wifi speeds the device needs more than one antenna. Most phones have just 1 antenna, and at 20mhz channel bandwidth, what you got Jason is about right that configuration. Newer devices and larger devices like tablets can have more antennas like 3x3 or 4x4 that combined with 40mhz channel bandwidth will get you higher speeds closer to 300Mbps/600Mbps/900Mbps of N.

Make sure that access point you have is in 40Mhz mode, that will give you a little more bandwidth.

Also that access point you have might also be limiting you, since the S4 supports 5Ghz and AC.

I'm so jealous, my Charter connection blows and I haven't ran cable yet so I'm on wireless, LOL will be making some drops soon cause this is ridiculous. I think that Comcast started running some trunk lines in my area so maybe there's hope in the near future. Right now I'm getting 15 down 2 up.

Thanks... I think my S5 supports 5Ghz as well. I really want to take full advantage of the new speeds that Time Warner has unleashed here. Currently doing some upgrades. Done a lot of research, and I like this beast for a wireless AP. She'll make point five past light speed:

If you're looking for a good router/AP, I found some great reviews on this linksys and purchased it. I'm loving the simplicity, performance, range and speeds.
